5 Tips: How to Stay Positive in Lockdown

The past year has brought grief, loneliness, stress, unemployment and isolation to thousands across the UK due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now we are in the third national lockdown, it can be hard to picture the light at the end of the tunnel.

However, with the vaccine rollout underway and the arrival of spring in a few weeks, there are some positive vibes heading our direction. Here’s 5 tips on how to stay positive throughout the third lockdown:

1. Exercise!

Exercise has a huge impact on mental health and triggers the release of endorphins into the bloodstream, helping boost wellbeing and health. When you think of exercise, you may automatically think of considerable exercise like running or complex at-home routines, however this isn’t always the case. Even a light walk, some gardening or an indoor chair workout can get your blood pumping and mask feelings of anxiety or depression.

Although winter time is a difficult time for exercising outside, why not challenge yourself to go for a walk on every dry/sunny day, and complete an exercise inside when its rainy! Our range of exercise aids can help with this – particularly our pedal exercisers (which you can use whilst watching tv!). If you are struggling with your mobility, our range of walkers and mobility scooters help to get you out and about to enjoy the fresh air of your local area. 2. Set a target or goal

Setting a target can be easier than you think! Big or small, a goal can help your mind focus and feel in-control. Do you want to finish your new book, knit a blanket, or even learn a new language? Incorporating your new goal into your daily routine can add structure into your day, and keep you motivated and occupied. Make it something you really enjoy!

3. Check in on friends and family

Keeping in touch with friends, neighbours or family is more important now more than ever. To stay positive and connected with your loved ones, try to get in touch with them every week, be it by phone or video, for a catch up! This can help to combat loneliness, isolation, overthinking and boredom, and can be a chance for you to tell them how you are feeling, aswell as support them in return.

4. Embrace your emotions

Remind yourself that it is okay to feel negative emotions from time to time – we are in a global pandemic after all! In times like these, staying motivated and positive at all times is extremely difficult – if you are having a bad day, embrace it and aspire for better things tomorrow.

5. Treat yourself if you want to!

Treat yourself with kindness – you deserve it! From time to time, the situation we are living in can be very overwhelming. If you are feeling like you need a little pick me up to set yourself back on the right track – go for it! Maybe that’s treating yourself to a new subscription box, watching your favourite movie, eating your favourite food or spoiling yourself to something new for your home.
